Room with a Better View was a group exhibition at SAIC Galleries, as part of the MFA 1 show, in March of 2022 in Chicago, IL. The following images depict May’s section of the exhibition.
The show was on view from March 3 - March 9.
Room with a Better View is an invocation of a new perspective and a brighter vision. From each viewpoint, these artists cast their gaze past boundaries of time, memory, perception, and place to look beyond existing walls of the present and open a window onto a new outlook. They overlap and collapse timelines, allowing the past to rewrite narratives for the future, and the future to rewrite narratives of the past. They forge new ways of looking through distortions, omissions, turbulence, misrepresentations, and exaggerations.
Step into our space— try on individual familiarities, feel the edges of our awareness, and hold the weight of our histories. Each of our lenses has been shaped by different forces, but when turned to face the same direction, we have the opportunity to focus a beam of light that can see further than before. Come stand in our room; come look toward a better view.
This exhibition included Eleanor Frick, Erica Marie Littlejohn, Maddie May, Katie Rauth, Thương Hoài Trần, and Jasmine Yeh.
